Podcast: Preparing for a Hospital Stay

I had to stay overnight at a hospital for a emergency surgery as a teenager. Although my mom worked as a ER/ICU nurse, I really had no idea what to expect.

I nearly jumped out of my bed when a nurse came to check on me in the middle of the night. And again the second time. And the third…(They don’t really leave you alone for very long!)

So, before you take a loved one (or yourself) to the hospital for surgery or other medical procedures, have a listen to this short podcast (below).

I spoke with Judy Pechacek, the vice president of patient care and chief nursing officer at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. She offers some great tips on what to bring with you to the hospital, the admittance and discharge process and general caregiver advice:
