Last-Minute Pre-Flight Tips

Posted on | October 23, 2007 |

Lifehacker, a personal productivity blog, is running an amazing series full of useful, last-minute tips to help you prepare for your next flight.

We’ve got a list of similar tips:

  1. Reconfirm all your reservations and their confirmation numbers
  2. Check the weather for your destination(s). Take out or add items to your luggage, if necessary.
  3. Make any necessary changes to your itinerary. Leave a copy of it with a friend or family member and a work colleague, just in case someone needs to get a hold of you.
  4. Make arrangements for a ride to (and from!) the airport.
  5. Double-check you have ON YOUR PERSON all tickets, passports, photo I.D., necessary money, medicine and all bags.

Hey guys - came across your site and still haven’t fully been across it all - WOW!

Anyway - thought i’d post something quick here. One thing I’d add though based off a recent trip out to NYC - after all the preparations are done - know what time you need to be at the airport! We all sorta know 1+ hour domestic and maybe 2+ international. I’ve always heard that that’s because of security lines, etc… Not always the case - the airline might simply close on you!

So - how to not get stuck sitting in the airport? Know when they close!

We were flying a smaller airline out of JFK. They had one of those “outta the way” check in points that we finally found. Flight was leaving at 9:15 and we were there to check in about 8:55 or so - thinking “great, we’re set”. Got there and they said “we’re closed” - what? but you’re all standing here Odd thing was, there were two ticketing people and the manager. Flight isn’t leaving for 20 minutes, but “we’re closed”. Huh. Fortunately they were great and helped us thru but did give us a nice warning of “yep” - we are technically closed 45 minutes before the flight goes! I’d never heard of that before. Beware! Early is best!
