Cribs 101 - 1 of 2
Grandchild #2 was coming over and some friends of ours had borrowed our crib. No problem, I still had the porta-crib I used when my two were born.
That was until I really looked at it.
The spindles were almost four inches apart, some screws didn’t tighten completely, and there was a big gap around the [...]
Obamas Pick the Portuguese Water Dog
The Portuguese Water Dog will be the next first dog, CNN reports.
Well, the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America is probably beside itself.
Some of the pix we’ve seen of PWDs show them half shaved (back half…). We’re hoping the Obamas don’t do that; it looks like a groomer began shaving then had a change of [...]
Disaster of the Day - Turkish Airline Crash
MSNBC is reporting nine people dead and at least 50 injured after a Turkish Airlines 737-800 broke into three pieces while trying to land at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.
Reportedly, there were 143 people on Flight TK1951, which had left Ataturk Airport (Istanbul) for Amsterdam.
Our thoughts are with the passengers’ families, friends and co-workers.
Best of the Day - Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell wants to freeze himself when he passes so he can come back later - kind of like human syndication…
This freezing process is called cryogenics. It has been around for years, though it really came into its own in 1997 when Austin D. Powers was successfully brought back to fight his nemesis, Dr. Evil.
Though, [...]
Best of the Day - Pizza
Here’s something to celebrate when you’re traveling - good pizza.
Driving back from Wisconsin after the grueling cross-country ski 7K (where we were passed by a dad, using one pole and pulling a child….), we decided to stop a place outside of Luck, Wisconsin called JJ’s Club.
Located on Highway 35, JJ’s is a pizza shop, pool [...]
The Club - Car Rentals
When we were first researching and interviewing about car rental, we’d rent cars for our business trips to test advice, find out what worked best, uncover glitches, how glitches were handled, etc.
While we found Hertz and National to be delightful, their ‘clubs’ are equally nice.
When you enroll in the clubs (check for fees) you get [...]
Valentine’s Day Weekend
We’re heading to Wisconsin to a 10K cross country ski event called Book Across the Bay. There’s a great YouTube video here that shows the event.
The 10K starts a night, there are hundreds of luminaries and a resting point halfway. I think 2,000 people are taking part this year.
While many do this as a race, [...]
Best of the Day - Stump at the Westminster Dog Show
OK, a couple of posts about the dogs, but who doesn’t love a good-looking dog? We’re watching the 133rd Westminster Dog Show.
Congratulations to the Best in Show winner - the 10 year-old Sussex, Stump, from the Sporting Group! He’s the oldest winner at the Westminster and a well-deserved champion. We’re fans of the sporting group [...]
AKC Eukanuba Championships
We’re watching the AKC/Eukanuba championships on Animal Planet.
Of course, we’re rooting for the Golden in the sporting group…our office dog is a golden….

And, we, of course, have tips from experts - including the AKC, vets and [...]
Holy Smokes
Sad news in Chicago - the 134-year-old Holy Name Cathedral caught fire early this morning. CNN reports that it took 2.5 hours to put the fire out, and there is extensive damage to the roof and attic (where it is believed to have started) as well as enormous water damage inside. Thankfully no one died.
How [...]
